About this place
The curry is rich with dashi, its sweetness followed by a lingering heat. Yabuya’s signature curry udon is made for twirling up with the springy noodles, crisp green onion and sweet-and-savoury beef. One diner singled out a bowl topped with a generous mound of Kujo green onions and beef, praising the interplay of dashi flavour and spice. The menu also offers a lighter, spicy curry udon described as “light and spicy, fragrant with dashi”. Curry udon starts at 850 yen; the version with Kyoto-style fried tofu is 1,350 yen, and the egg-bound version is 1,450 yen.
Another house speciality is kasu udon, made with deep-fried beef offal. It costs 1,550 yen; versions with egg and with beef cost 1,800 yen and 2,000 yen, respectively. Another diner enjoyed the beef-and-kasu udon with unagizaku—grilled eel with cucumber—as a final dish. There are also tanuki-meshi rice balls, rolled omelette to accompany a drink, and simmered beef tendon with tofu. The menu makes it easy to pair a bowl of udon with small dishes and drinks. Yabuya is open Monday to Saturday from 18:00 until 2:00 the following day, and is closed on Sundays.
